Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

What vacations are for: the beach

The beach--wide open space to chase birds (even yelling "git" to them), kick (and throw sand), retrieve buckets of water, and sit in the "waves" that float in. What a fabulous time I had.

What vacations are for: reading

Vacations are a great time to catch up on your reading and boy did I include everyone as I tackled daily the carton of books we brought. I am having a lot of fun acting out the story or sounds in a book these days as you will clearly see as I wiggle my fingers to indicate no more monkeys jumping on the bed, or poking out my tongue on cue in "Sometimes I like to curl up in a ball." I don't know how many times I said "read" to Tootz this vacation, but am sure it was a lot. Checking out how the markets faired yesterday.
Rainy day reading: dressed for the beach, thwarted by the rain (but too optimistic to take off the garb), so will catch up on a few books.

Big Red Barn

One of my favorite books is the Big Red Barn (Margaret Wise Brown). The book starts with the following words: By the big red barn, in the great green field, there was a.......

While vacationing in New York, I got to see a big red barn up very close and in the great green field in front of the barn I didn't find a pink pig that was learning to squeal, but instead a fabulous swing (that sounded like it was squealing).

Motherly insticts (vacation style)

As any good mother would do, I made sure that my baby was going to get to go on vacation with me. I packed clothes, bottles, and a stroller and as the video will show, on one rainy afternoon in the cabin, I packed my baby.

Kleenex anyone?

At home the Kleenex are guarded behind doors--occasionally I am allowed to pull "one" from the box to play with. In Tootz's cabin in New York, a box was left a my level (just once) so I had a blast, well at least until I was discovered.

Wellesley Island State Park 2010

A fabulous time in New York State was had by all. A few pictures to share.

I was up late purposely so that I could be in a picture with Carol and Catherine as the sun set over the

St. Lawrence River.

Fishing, although it should surprise no one that I wasn't close enough to the water to catch anything.

Hokey Pokey

You put your right foot in,
You put your right foot out,
You put your right foot in
And you shake it all about.
You do the Hokey Pokey
And you turn yourself around,
That's what it's all about.

Water hose

The perfect addition to any pool time party in the heat of summer is the water hose. I quickly grasped the concept of the power you have when you are the one holding the hose--it was also quite refreshing both to drink from and to cool off my belly. Video: push play to begin
